Gomukh Tapovan trek is famous around the word, we can says source of the Holy Ganga river trek. Gomukh is the source of the holy river Ganga situated at  a hight of 13200 ft in Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand.
The way up to Gomukh is 15 km long from Gangotri, but the natural scenery is so enchanting that one doesn’t mind.
Go” means “cow” and “mukh” means “face” or “mouth”. “Gomukh” (or “Gaumukh”) literary means “cows face” or “cows mouth”. The glacier is called thus, since it looks like that.

Gangotri is not only for the spiritual seekers but also for the adventure enthusiasts and trekking enthusiasts. Gomukh-Tapovan-Nandanvan is a major track in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas. Whether experienced trackers or novices, this trek gives everyone a memorable experience that passes through the Gomukh glacier which is the origin of the holy Ganges River.

The most popular track among the travelers visiting here is the trek from Gangotri to Gangotri Glacier. At this place you will find how impulse Ganga river is coming out of a small place. Experienced trackers usually complete this track in eight hours. This track becomes very narrow and difficult in many places and the last few kilometers have to pass through very stony paths. However, the rest of the way is quite easy except for some steep climb in the rest of the trek.

Gomukh Tapovan Trek is considered to be a moderate type of trek i.e. both climber and non-climber can easily decide this track, provided they are healthy. In this route you pass through many beautiful glaciers like Gangotri, Meru, Kirti Bamak. In Tapovan, the experience of seeing an entire mountain together from its base to the summit is unique. This experience can be further enhanced by camping here. And if you are lucky, you can also see herds of blue mountain goats, called bharal here, that come to graze on the vegetable mountains here.

Itineraries

Day 01

Rishikesh/Haridwar – Uttarkashi (172 kms) : 6 Hours

Morning reach to Haridwar or Rishikesh, our vechile will be wating for you. Check all your needed things for trek, Depart to Gangotri via Chamba, Uttarakashi crossing some beautiful villages, Valley, Rivers & view points, takes around 6 hours to reach Uttarakashi. Uttarakashi is a small town situated on the bank of Holy Bhagirathi river at an altitude of 1158 m above sea level. Night stay in Uttarakashi.

Day 02

Uttarakashi to Gangotri (3100 m) – 100 km. – 4h

Morning tea & breakfast & depart to Gangotri(3100m) along with banksof the Bhagirathi river which will increase your rapture about your trek, travel distance is 100 kms takes around 4 hours to reach. After reaching in Gangotri, visit Holy temple of Gangotri dedicated to Ganga maa. lunch in Gangotri & today is acclimatization day for you. Overnight stay in Gangotri.

Day 03

Gangotri to Bhojwasa (3792 m) - 13 km – 6 h

Enjoy sunrise view with hot tea in Gangotri, after breakfast start trek to bhojbasa along with gurgling sound of Bhagirathi river. Lunch in chirbasa & enjoy view of Bhagirathi I, II, III peak is quite amazing, after lunch we will proceed to Bhojbasa through forest of Pine & Cedar. Night stay in camp.

Day 04

Bhojwasa to Gomukh(3890m) – Tapovan (4300 m)- 5 to 6 h

Today we will trek towards Source of “Ganga” flowing down from Giant Gangotri Glacier. Explore Gamukh & Gangotri Glacier & start trek towards High altitude medow Tapovan. Night halt in Tapovan

Day 05

Tapovan to Nandanvan(4337 m) – 6 km – 4 to 5 Hours

Explore morning view of Tapovan & Bhagirathi Peaks, post breakfast we will trek to Nandanvan through Gangotri Glacier, takes 4.5 – 5 hours to reach Nandanvan. Explore the area while drinking tea. Dinner & night stay in Nandanvan.

Day 06

Nandanvan to Bhojbhasa – 5.5 – 6 hours

Morning tea & breakfast in foothills of Bhagirathi peaks.Today we trek to Bhojwasa , Enjoy morning surrounding view of Nandanvan & Bhagirathi peaks , collect some memories on your cam & handsets. We will reach Bhogbasa around 4:30 pm. Enjoy evening tea & snacks. Night halt in Bhojbasa.

Day 07

Bhojbasa to Utarakashi - 100 km motarable -13 km trek

Today last day for trekking, trek down to Gangotri after early breakfast it will take 4 hours to reach Gangotri where our vehicle will be waiting & Depart For Uttarakashi.

Day 08

Uttarakashi to Rishikesh : 170 km : 7 Hours

Today visit Viswanath Temple in Morning & depart for Rishikesh. Your trek program ends here.
