The trek is known for its complex location and unpredictable weather. The pass is said to have been discovered in 1815 by James Bailey Fraser, a foreign national. His collected information suggests that this pass was popular among villagers in ancient times, reaching the remote parts of the Ravine Valley (upper parts of the Tons Valley) as a short cut to cross the Bhagirathi valley. In fact, the same route was used by merchants and invaders for years.

It is a spectacular and scenic spot that takes you towards the Ruinsara Lake before descending 5000 meters of Yamunotri. After this it is an easy soothing descent.
